This project received pledges on Sun 26 Mar 2017

pledged of £3,000

Please help us bring our range of natural breakfast and snacking products, to the nation!

We're raising £3000 to enable development of our range of breakfast and snack products. We want to get the nation starting the day with a bowl of our delicious natural fruity porridge and to snack on our flavoured toasted seed mix toppings.

The good news is that Simplyseedz is ready to hit the supermarket shelves!

With your help we can further increase the brand awareness to make our products more readily available.

Who are you?

My name is Cathryn Zielinski, Founder of Simplyseedz, a passionate foodie, who loves the open air, good food and wine and walking my two dogs in the Worcestershire countryside.

I'm supported by my husband Andrew (he's the logistics guy at events), my son Tom, his wife to be Rhi and daughter Jess. They all get involved helping at shows, delivering orders and are general good sounding boards for my ideas.

How did Simplyseedz come about?

I used to pretty much eat what I wanted, without giving it too much thought.

But following a health scare 10 years ago (I'm fortunate to have survived a pulmonary embolism) I began to take more care of myself and consider what I was eating. Breakfast was a good place to start, so I bought supposedly good for you breakfast cereals and seed mixes from the supermarket, but after time, felt that I could make my own mixes that were fresher, tasted better and more importantly were healthier.  So I created my own muesli, porridge and seed sprinkles. It wasn’t long before the whole family and friends were devouring my creations! And then I had an idea...

When redundancy struck from a full time job, it was the opportunity I needed to launch Simplyseedz!

Why is this important to you?

It can be frustrating to see so little choice in the supermarket cereal aisle, and so many with high levels of sugar or additives. For example porridge is perceived to be healthy, which it should be. But more often than not, especially the convenient on the go pots, can be packed with as much as 40 grams (i.e. 8 teaspoons) of refined sugar, making them a poor choice. You may as well choose a mars bar for breakfast (this is not recommended of course!)

Then there’s the healthier snacks, but again often they have added salt! Some snacks get dismissed because they can be perceived to be just too healthy, faddy or only suitable for those on a specific diet or fitness regime! Seedz are not just for the birds!!

Simplyseedz products can be enjoyed by everyone and this is the message we wish to promote. You certainly don't have to be a gym bunny to enjoy our range!

We believe the opportunity for Simplyseedz is significant and can only grow. From little seeds to mighty oaks - well ok maybe a forest first, but it’s an exciting time for you to join us on our journey!

What impact will your pledges make?

The pledges we receive will enable the business to fulfil its ambitions to further market our Simplyseedz brand. As a backer you will have our full commitment to get Simplyseedz to be the snack or breakfast of choice.

What are your business aspirations?

It is our desire to be the top snack or breakfast of choice and the brand that everyone knows, loves and trusts. We have lots of ideas waiting to be fulfilled, which includes additional flavours and products.

What have you achieved so far?

While we have made some great strides so far in our journey, such as supplying Gloucester Services (M5), Fenwicks Food Hall, Daylesford Organics and have recently launched porridge on Ocado and Amazon.  We were delighted to receive a Great Taste Award in 2016 for our Date & Apricot Porridge.  Simply, we just need more people to discover Simplyseedz. So there’s lots more to do!

Why are we crowdfunding?

Firstly, we want to develop the seed mix snack pot offering in terms of branding and packaging.

If we are fortunate to exceed our crowdfunding target, we will be able to further fund New Product Development, including new recipes.

We will be giving updates on our campaign on a very regular basis via social media channels and newsletters. To those who kindly pledge, we will provide you with news on our business development.

How we will use your pledges?

We are currently supplying a limited number of outlets with our porridge range. We'd love you to be a part of helping us bring something new to the breakfast and snack market and every pledge will be used (this is our wish list):

  • Seed Mix Snack pot re-branding – this includes graphic design, new improved tamper proof containers, labelling and packaging and production costs (estimated cost £1500)
  • An updated/new ecommerce website that will enable customers to create their own account, mobile/tablet friendly (estimated cost £2000)
  • Social Media Campaign – to launch the new snack pots and further promote porridge range. Using all social media channels (Twitter, FB, Instagram) to reach out to consumers and stockists, to include PR in national press ( estimated cost £200 )
  • Exhibit at Consumer & Trade Foodie Shows – exhibition space (average £150 per show per day) and promotional collateral (pull up banner (£150), leaflets (£60), recipe cards (£60)) to launch snack pots and further promote porridge range ( estimated cost £2000 )

As a thank you for your pledge you will receive as a minimum a heartfelt thank you, social media mention and other exciting rewards for your support. Further details of the programme of rewards on offer can be found on this web page.

What are the risks involved in your project?

  • There can be risks in everything. But we want to assure you that where possible, risks are minimised. We operate a food standard HACCP (Hazard & Critical Control Process), which is regularly monitored and we are registered with Worcestershire Regulatory Services.
  • We do quality checks on production from taste to labelling information, and we are insured for public liability and product liability.
  • If we do not reach our funding target, the rules for Tesco BackIt state that we cannot send out your rewards and your money will be refunded, so please pledge with confidence and help us spread the word on Facebook

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: Due to some technical issues Tesco Backit have extended our campaign until Sunday eve, 26th March.

Should anyone still experience any problems please let me know. Thanks everyone,

Lets go hit that target!

3 months, 1 week ago

Hi everyone!

***Campaign closes 24th March***

With only 4 days left of our campaign, we really need your pledges now to hit our target.

We are at 30% of target so I'm hoping that my appeal will encourage you to get involved.

Pledges are converted into investment funds by Tesco only when we achieve our target, ie at the end of a successful campaign.  So there is absolutely no risk to you.

Hitting our target will allow us to

•Enable a commercial production run of seed mixes to get them to market.

•Launch marketing campaigns for both porridge & snack pot seed mixes to get them in a shop near you.

•Develop our website to improve the shopping experience for our customers.

Simplyseedz is passionate about our provenance and has placed much effort to create honest clean food products for you to enjoy.

Just think how great it will be when you're able to pick up a little pot at a till for when you have the munchies! Perfect healthy treats for your lunchbox, gym bag, handbag, work bags etc.

Simplyseedz is run solely by myself, Cathryn. I wear all the hats! It's challenging but progress has been great in thanks to our fantastic customers and followers.

So please, please make a pledge. Perhaps team up with a friend and share the great rewards? You then both benefit!

So if you've not pledged yet, now's the time!

Thank you so much in advance,
